Koun Franz has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Priest for Anchorage Zen Community. Koun is currently the priest for Thousand Harbours Zen, which is based out of Sensouji Temple in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Koun served as resident priest of the Anchorage Zen Community from 2006 to 2010. In 2013, he moved to Halifax from Japan, where he trained, taught, and translated at traditional monasteries and temples. Some of his writings on Buddhist practice can be found at Nyoho Zen and Lion’s Roar; many of his talks are available on the THZ Podcast and on YouTube. Koun is active in the Association of Soto Zen Buddhists (ASZB) and Soto Zen Buddhist Association (SZBA), and he is recognized by the Soto school in Japan as a kokusai fukyoshi, or international teacher.
